Staff central to eco efforts

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to improve their environmental performance would be well advised to create a plan for change which puts their employees centre stage, a spokesperson for Envirowise has stated.
Improving the attitudes of the people within an organisation is key to improving its environmental footprint, the best practice firm states.
"A starting point for any business needs to be through changing the behaviour of their employees," spokesperson for the organisation said.
"Without a change in attitude, businesses will find it hard to become truly successful at becoming more sustainable. Making environmental measures part of standard business practice will encourage behaviour change, and in time such practice will become woven into the fabric of the business," the expert continued.
Envirowise estimates that companies who take eco-focused action for the first time can identify savings of up to £250 per employee in office-based companies, or as much as £1,000 per employee for manufacturers.
