A major supplier of office products has announced a new environmentally-friendly line of products, following recent recommendations on its green practises.

Office Depot has announced its new range of Office Depot Green products which will include remanufactured ink and toner cartridges, chairs made from recycled content, Energy Star electronics and non-toxic cleaning supplies.

Products will also feature high recycled content, including notebooks and file folders, or certification from green seal.

The items will be distinguishable by their bright green packaging and available across the company's 1,200-plus stores and on-line.

In a recent report by ForestEthics and Dogwood Alliance, Office Depot received a higher grade than in the previous year.

The report showed that many major office supply companies had made progress incorporating more environmentally-responsible practises.

Staples and FedEx topped the list and Office Depot was praised for phasing out Asian pulp and paper products. The report did believe the company needed to step up efforts in reducing the products it sourced from the fragile Canadian Boreal Forests.

In December, Office Depot launched its fourth green book, a catalogue which features 3,000 products with environmental attributes available from the company.
