'Several methods' of improving SME eco performance

There are several different ways in which small businesses can improve their environmental performance, a spokesperson for Envirowise has said.
The company claims that carbon efficient measures can often be easy to implement - and looking at how much paper and other resources they are throwing away is a good place to start.
"A simple starting point is paper. Consider that on average 60 to 80 per cent of office waste is paper," a spokesperson for the Envirowise said.
"It goes without saying that businesses will produce waste, but they should try to reduce it by following the principles of the 'waste hierarchy framework': eliminate, reduce, re-use, recycle and then dispose."
According to Envirowise's research, 79 per cent of the UK's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) regard environmental issues to be important to their business, and 48 per cent believe they are more environmentally active than a year ago, but a third are yet to take implement measures such as sustainable purchasing and ethical buying.
