A diverse selection of companies, including sportswear manufacturer Nike and Dutch electronics firm Phillips, have made a new list of the world's top 20 sustainable companies.

The 2007 edition of the Sustainable Business 20 list of the World's Top Sustainable Stocks aims to recognise companies that have made efforts to advance their sustainability and promote green technology.

Land Securities, the developer and land owner, is the sole UK firm on the list, receiving praise for its energy efficiency and compliance with green building standards.

"Over the past six years, we seen the universe of companies we have to chosen from grow larger and we've seen it deepen," Rona Fried, chief executive of the list's compilers SustainableBusiness.com, told Green Money Journal.

"Early on, we were just happy to see companies that were doing something sustainable. Now companies have to go beyond just having a green product, to changing their internal operations."

As well as the 20 firms listed, search engine provider Google also received an honourable mention for its sustainability efforts.ADNFCR-1231-ID-18408792-ADNFCR
